The new Ecotelhado for Already known products in countries such as Australia, New Zealand and the United States, floating islands are the most economical way to treat urban waterways (rivers, streams, lakes) polluted by dirty water that seeps from the streets during Rainfall, and the mixture of sewage so common in Brazilian cities. They are also efficient in industrial effluent treatment ponds.
So that the polluted waters return to their state of natural purity, the Floating Islands, or Eco barrier, follow the laws of Biomimetics, an area of science that is inspired by nature to develop functionalities useful to humans.

Made of disposable material (plastics, etc.) these modular systems function as artificial floating islands. In these islands is made the planting and cultivation of various types of plants that will do the water treatment.
Ecotelhado developed and implemented the first Eco barrier of Porto Alegre. The project was created by the digital certification company Safeweb in partnership with the city of Porto Alegre, in order to contain the accumulation of garbage instream Dilúvio and prevent it from reaching Lake Guaíba..
The Eco barrier project aims to make an ecological barrier that will contain any solid residue that floats through the stream, up to 20 centimeters deep. The collected waste will be removed whenever necessary and the floating islands will treat the water a little. The structure will be installed in the waterway, between the Edvaldo Pereira Paiva and Beira Rio avenues, near the mouth of the stream.
Along the floating islands, there is a gantry as if it was a “grid” that will concentrate the collected garbage, so the DMLU will be responsible for removing this garbage and it will be up to the DEP to supervise the operation of the equipment and its effectiveness, to verify the collection of debris, captured waste by the ecological barrier. SMAM is also a partner in the project.
The project will be implemented experimentally and will be monitored during one year, through three instances. In this period, it will be permanently evaluated to verify its efficiency, and can be adopted as one of the practices in the reception and collection of garbage in streams.
